STOPLISTERIA

- A new natural antimicrobial agent against Listeria.

Stoplisteria is a new antimicrobial agent extracted in concentrated form from different mediterranean herbs. This new product shows to have high antioxidant properties, as well  as it has shown to be an effective listeria control with a dosis of only 0,1 - 0,2%.

Listeria (Listeria monocytogenes) is a common bacterium (bug) which is widely found in dust, soil, water, plants, sewage and animal droppings. Listeria is only dangerous to pregnant women, their babies and people with a lowered immune system, especially the very young and elderly.

Listeria is a type of bacteria people are hearing more and more in  the news due to recalls of millions of pounds of meat. A wide range of food types have been implicated with transmission including meat, dairy, fish, shellfish and vegetable products. The laboratory methods used to detect L. monocytogenes in food have improved in recent years and the organism has been found, but usually in small numbers, in many foods including raw fish, shellfish and fish products; raw meat, poultry and their products including hot dogs and pate; raw and processed vegetables; salat bars, ripened soft cheeses; ice cream; retail cook-chill meals; salads including coleslaw; raw and inadequately pasteurised milk as well as raw and liquid egg. Listeria is a problem because the usual methods of preservation, including  refrigeration, only slow its growth. Meats and dairy products have  been the major foods involved in recalls because these products  provide all the nutrients and moisture bacteria need for rapid growth.

Uses:
0,1 - 0,2% of Stoplisteria should be enough to avoid Listeria. Stoplisteria can be used in the following food products:

CHEESES:
Soft cheeses such as feta, Brie, Camembert, Ricotta, blue-veined types such as Danish Blue, Stilton or Gorgonzola and Mexican-style cheese. (Hard cheesed, processed cheeses, cream cheese, cottage cheese, or yogurts.

MEAT:
Ready-to-eat foods, such as hot dogs and Meat based pate. Other ready-to-eat cooked meats, takeaway cooked diced chicken (are used in chicken sandwiches), cold meat,
Lunch meats and raw meats, among them meat based pate.

FISH:
raw seafood (such as oysters and sashimi), smoked seafood such as smoked salmon, smoked oysters.

SALADS:
Pre-prepared or stored salads.
If possible natural antimicrobials should be labeled as "natural flavor",  which is desirable for meat manufacturers looking for clean labels and the reduction of synthetic preservatives. Today researchers here are working on this concept.
